We're home tonight if you want to connect via Zoom

October 11, 2021

Dear Normita, This am, Olga took me for a walking tour of La Macarena, including having a coffee at the base of the famous trio of Park Towers, an architectural complex of buildings Brian knows of (designed by Regelio Salmona) which overlooks the famous and controversial Plaza de Toros de Santamaria (proposal to ban bullfighting and rescue the building started in 2012 but was restored by the current Bogota mayor in 2017).

We also passed the municipal performing arts venue where I gather you had served as jury member for Colombian dance companies. Here is a blast-from-the-past picture to jog your visual memory...unfortunately, we did not get to go inside to check out the gallery nor the smaller rehearsal hall where Olga previously taught dance classes.

Across the street were these amazing flea market vendors displaying their used toys which echoed the aesthetic of a three-day duration all performance + installation project I did with dancer/curator Vanessa Kimmons at the now-infamous videofag storefront space in Kensington Market called Beaver and White Rabbit.

To cap off our morning, we went to a strip of Afrocolombian/Pacific coast restaurants to have a meal of Sierra (a delicious and tasty fish) and fish soup and then headed back to the apartment so that we can both have a productive work afternoon (Olga is teaching back to back classes and I am triaging our WiFi and apartment relocation as well as prepping for the start of 2021 Caminos Festival tomorrow)

Tomorrow is the ‘celebration’ of Dia de la Raza (Day is the Races) which will surely promise to be eventful as the political climate here is filled with the bubbling of ongoing issues.

Hope to talk later! Let us know when!

xoxo
